Dear Prospective Member:

Over the past several months, I have had many conversations with photographers and illustrators regarding the state of the industry.  The problems and concerns expressed have been consistent from artist to artist.  The resounding message is one of grave concern over the loss of control and the viability of maintaining a long term career in this industry.

Creative Eye Seeks Prosperity and Growth for the Independent Artist.

These concerns have been heard and to aid artists in addressing them, Creative Eye was established.  The objective of this cooperative is to provide the means by which photographers and illustrators can change the conditions of the industry in which they work.  The advantage of a cooperative organization is the provision for members to work together rather than in isolation.  Establishing a critical mass will impact the marketplace in which the members are a part, addressing concerns such as market standards, licensing methods, rights protection and licensing fees for the reuse of their images.  As the market consolidates and concerns over the future of the industry escalate, strength in numbers will become more critical, as will the need for artists to protect the licensing and distribution of their images.

Creative Eye: Providing for a Stronger, Independent Artist.

Cooperative organizations facilitate the voice of their members and invite input and participation in the organizations growth and development.  Creative Eye is owned by its membership--one member, one vote.  A member-elected Board of Directors will assist the membership by representing their interests and assisting management in reaching its goals of growth and industry preservation. The direction, growth and ultimate market force of Creative Eye truly lies in the hands of its members, working cooperatively. Creative Eye and all of its services are owned by the membership, the threat of acquisition is dissuaded, a threat which is a real concern to many artists in the industry.

Creative Eye Focuses on Stock, Purchasing and Assignment Services.

Creative Eye is an umbrella organization under which a number of services will co-exist.  Participation in these services is a matter of choice, not a requirement. Creative Eye was launched July 1, 2001 with Mira.com, a stock image service. Mira is the foundation of Creative Eye and the platform from which future services such as purchasing and assignment will grow.  Mira offers a non-exclusive, artist friendly contract returning 60% of the licensing fee to the artist. The artist maintains control of their images, how they are used and the licensing fees set for their images.  These contract terms along with the principles of a cooperative model provide for a unique and attractive alternative in the industry.

Call to Action for Photographers and Illustrators!

Creative Eye is all about alternatives, strong alternatives owned and supported by artists.  The cooperative is working to sustain the future of the industry, but the success of any cooperative lies with its membership.  The impact Creative Eye has on the industry is directly proportionate to the commitment and number of artists who join.  If the opportunity of building, owning, supporting and fostering an organizations' growth and success is attractive to you, I invite you to join and help create the industry standards of tomorrow, today! I thank you, in advance, for your participation and look forward to working with you in building a successful cooperative.
