Caption and Keyword Options

Please make certain to read and follow the Caption and Keywording Guidelines before completing your submission. Any submission that does not adhere to these guidelines will be returned for correction.

Caption and Keyword Options

Prior to being uploaded onto www.mira.com, All submissions must be accompanied by captions or keywords provided by the photographer. There are two options for doing so: using either the Online Captioning, supplied after the images have been edited or Photoshop File Info before the images have been edited.

Option #1: Online Captioning

Online Captioning allows you to provide your caption/keyword information after the images have been edited. Note that this is the only option available for original film submissions where Mira is providing the scanning. This option allows the photographer to provide captions and keywords for the accepted images only.

If Online Captioning is indicated as your preference you will receive an alert, link and instructions via email from Stock Media when your accepted images are ready for captions/keywords. Once completed you will send a return email alerting Stock Media that the images are ready for upload. At this point the captions and keywords will be reviewed and edited as needed prior to final upload to Mira.com.

In order to test online captioning in advance of making a decision on which option best suits your needs, go to the following URL: http://216.139.146.126/caption/captionindex.htm and click on the “find and edit captions” (in the headline). When asked for a Mira ID# enter: MIRA. This will take you to a set of sample images that that can be altered at will without fear of damaging anything.

Critical Final Step

Please check your work thoroughly before informing us that you are finished; include the complete information along with any relevant MR or PR info or restrictions. You may not make changes or alterations once your submission is completed.

Option #2: Photoshop File Info

Option #2 utilizes the "File Info" or IPTC feature of Photoshop. This can also be accomplished using an application such as Extensis Portfolio 7 or iView MediaPro 2.6 to embed the information noted below in the IPTC metadata fields. For additional information see the list of image database programs at Controlled Vocabulary.

Please make certain to review the Caption/Keywording Guidelines before preparing your submission.

  • In Photoshop, click on the File menu, then choose File Info.
  • Only the Caption/Description and Keyword fields will be used, the other fields will be stripped out when your information is transferred into the Mira archive.
  • Use the Caption/Description field Only for the caption and for indicating whether the image is released. Please use the abbreviated MR or PR to indicate that the image is model or property released. If not indicated the image will be assumed to be unreleased.
  • If there are any restrictions it should be indicated in the Caption/Description field as well.
  • When applying captions please strive to be concise, accurate and relevant. Use capitol letters at the start of a sentence and with proper names. Do not abbreviate and check spelling for correctness.
  • Put keywords into the Keyword field. Strive to include only those keywords that the image in question actually illustrates. Limit the number of keywords to the most relevant twenty or less. As noted in the Caption/Keywording Guidelines, additional keywords will be generated during the final submission check. This process is particularly critical to those of you using the File Info option. We have noted that many of you simply cut and paste a 'universal' list of keywords, many of which are irrelevant to the subject represented in a specific image. The best way for you to have control over the keywords that appear online is to edit your prepared list for accuracy and relevancy for each image. Otherwise this decision will be left entirely at the discretion of the person finalizing your submission for upload. Once online, you will not have the option to make changes See additional information about keywording.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this thankless but extremely critical step in the submission process. Your faithful adherence to these guidelines will go a long way to increase the speed at which all submission are processed as well as improving the quality and relevance of the Mira archive for buyers.
